Maxine M. Shapiro's Biography

Maxine M. Shapiro has an unusual background combining holistic therapies, movement and music.

She studied at the Boston Conservatory of Music and the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA. She received her BA degree from Boston University, Boston, MA.

She received her diploma in massage therapy from the Bancroft School of Massage, Worcester, MA. She graduated the New England School of Acupuncture, Watertown, MA, and did post-graduate acupuncture studies at the Zhejiang Medical College, Hangzhou, China.

Maxine began her study of Thai Traditional Massage after her "false sciatica" was successfully treated by this unique technique. For three years she returned to Chiang Mai, Thailand, for a month of study at the Foundation Hospital and ITM to learn this rocking massage, and to study with many different teachers. She also studied at Wat Po in Bangkok. Maxine's background in music and the oriental healing arts offers new perspectives for understanding this ancient massage.

Maxine teaches and practices in the United States at national and regional conferences and abroad. She is director of the Thai Massage Seminars, International, a division of Acupuncture & Healing Therapies. Maxine is nationally certified and licensed in both acupuncture and massage. She is a certified Thai Therapist instructor, teaching 3 to 6 hour workshops and 1 to 6 day certificate programs in Thailand Traditional Massage. She is also a "Holistic Health Detective".
